Why I Love Acupuncture
Acupuncture in general, and specifically the Five Elements approach resonates deeply for me, it makes sense on all levels. I love that it is about energy at all levels: mental, physical and spiritual.
The basic premise, is that we each embody a bit of nature, and so, all that goes on outside in the world around us, happens within each of us as well. The seasons that we watch outside happen within us in a human form, in our minds, bodies, and spirits.
For instance, winter, the time of water, is the time of stillness and building our reserves. In nature we feel the cold, which stops visible growth (as everything rests and builds underground), shorter days and cold weather.
Within us humans, we typically find that we have less energy and motivation outside of our daily lives. We’re inward, staying home, staying warm, getting more rest with the longer nights.
On the other hand there’s summer, the time of fire. This is when we’re all outside, hanging with friends, playing. Reveling in the sunshine and good weather. We’re drawing from the reserves we built up in the winter.
These are just very simple examples, hopefully to give you a taste. As we learn more about the elements both within and outside, we can use this knowledge to get to know ourselves, and others. We can live more fully.
This medicine is empowering and with the knowledge and lens of acupuncture there are many ways to expand our lives and choices towards health.
